You Are Not Doing Anything Wrong
A Rant Celebrating doing things differently
Good day my friends. This weeks’ post will be slightly different. A rant of sort, triggered by a series of posts on Substack that just irk me.
Posts that explain what, I, along with 99% of all other creators, do wrong.
What is the deal with that?
Why would someone, in their right mind, tell someone else that the project they pour their hearts and minds into, is wrong in any way?
And why, would creators that embrace this approach, have the ear of thousands and thousands of subscribers?
Without pushback?
I think most of us would agree that Substack is a place where people come to connect. Write about all sorts of topics and interests with personality and perspectives, oftentimes unique because of a lived experience and the authenticity that comes with it.
A place where we encourage one another to publish before perfection, interact through notes, and stop treating writing as a performative act.
I am not saying that what they do is wrong. I do sometimes, however, find myself questioning the ethics.
Is it right to sell a product on the back of someones’ insecurity or inexperience?
Should we weaponise “vanity metrics” (subscriber count, followers, paid subscribers) and use them to make a profit?
If we accept that business decisions need context, is it right to unequivocally declare what a good decision looks like?
Does the outcome, justify the possible damage to others?
As I write this, I do realise that Substack has a great number of “domains” with an even more small corners. Perhaps, I am in a small space where perfect imperfections are embraced and encouragement trumps judgement.
A place devoid of the toxicity that feeds growth.
The SuperAdvisor newsletter goes out of its way to avoid telling other what not to do. In fact, I do not even want to say what anyone should do, other than encouraging others to look after themselves. Ultimately, that is what this newsletter helps with.

For the next 2 1/2 weeks, I will be away on holidays, relaxing and hopefully, reflecting quietly on my journey and where it may take me next. Whatever random thoughts surface, the SuperAdvisor, its premise, and vision, will feature heavily in them.

What resonated with me most is that this isn't really about rejecting advice—it's about protecting the space where people feel safe enough to create in their own voice.
I think many creators already carry enough self-doubt. When every other message tells us we're doing it wrong, it's easy to lose sight of why we started writing in the first place.
Your reminder that authenticity, encouragement, and genuine connection matter just as much as growth metrics felt refreshing. Sometimes the healthiest communities aren't built by having all the answers, but by making room for different ways of showing up.
